Assessment of Tolerance of Some Tree Species to Air Contamination Using Air Pollution Tolerance and Anticipated Performance Indices in Isfahan City, Iran

Background: In the present study, tolerance of plantain tree species (Platanus orientalis, Morus nigra and Ailanthus altissima) to air pollution was evaluated using Air Pollution Tolerance Index (ATPI) Anticipated Performance (API) index in Isfahan city (Iran). Methods: For this purpose, three dominant trees growing at six stations selected then sampling leaves performed, after being transferred laboratory, ATPI API were calculated. Results: The results calculating M. nigra, P. orientalis A. altissima showed that highest values obtained 20.77 detected with 14.90 14.33 respectively. According had best performance (Score = 6 so it classified as Excellent) while very good intermediate performance, Conclusion: most tolerant would be suitable for plantation programme urban pollutant areas followed by Platanus altissima. As well our suggest can used bio-indicators due their low scores (lower than 16). study suggests combination both indices identifying selection plant is useful areas.
